Newly appointed Planning Commission member Josh Tiller said he heard about the commission opening through word of mouth. He has studied architecture, landscape architecture and environmental design and works for J.K. Tiller and Associates, a land planning and landscape architecture firm.

The two applications for the Planning Commission were given to council members before their meeting, and they voted for Tiller without any discussion. Councilman Jacob Preston said he voted for Tiller because he was a "known quantity" as a local landscape architect and the son of business owner Jim Tiller.

Councilman Emmett McCracken said he thought it was important to bring in someone who lives in a newly annexed area of Bluffton, and Tiller fit that description.
